Parking, accessibility & fleet drivers

The Council operates a permit car parking scheme for staff at Civic Centre and nearby Windmill Hills.

Allocation is restricted and subject to criteria including those with a blue badge, those with designated essential car user status, lease car holders, Strategic and Service Directors and other staff who can demonstrate the greatest business need in terms of frequency of work trips and work miles travelled. Find more information on the Intranet by choosing ‘Employee Information’ and then ‘Car Parking’ from the list.

Visitor parking is available at the Civic Centre. The charging period is between 9 and 5, Monday to Friday; first 20 minutes parking is free and thereafter the charge is 70p per hour. Weekends and Bank Holidays parking is £1 all day.

Other public car parking is available in the vicinity of Gateshead and details can be found at Gateshead Council’s website.

Blue Badge Holders

Some disabled blue badge holders may be exempt from permit fees where they can demonstrate they fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • Registered severely sight impaired
  • In receipt of higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • Receiving war pensioners mobility supplement
  • Awarded benefit under Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS)

Please note that being a blue badge holder alone may not in itself exempt you from payment.
